First Aid Post

The first bomb landed in Newton Street killing two auxiliary firemen.

On 6th May 2012, 71 years after the tragedy, a memorial plinth was unveiled at Woodside Cemetery, just a few hundred yards from the blast, by James Wardrop, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Renfrewshire assisted by Rev. George Prentice and Jim Smith of the Renfrewshire Family History Society. Guest of honour was Jenny Enterkin one of the last two living survivors from the bombing. Also present were friends and family of loved ones lost that night.

One of those attending the memorial service was Jim Ferguson, whose father was one of the first on the scene after the bombing. Whilst sifting through the debris, he came across one of the parachute cords from the mine which has been passed down to Jim, right.
