Sma’ Shot Day commemorates the weavers victory over the Corks for payment of the Sma Shot - an interwoven thread which bound the cloth together but was unseen, hence the Corks refusal to pay for it.
However, after a long running dispute the Corks gave way and agreed to pay for the hidden thread.
After that time the first Saturday in July was declared a holiday in memory of a famous victory.
Sma Shot Day begins with a parade from a starting point at the Dooslan Stane in Brodie Park, at the head of the parade is a drummer beating the Charleston Drum followed by local dignitaries. The parade makes its way to Abbey Close where stalls and childrens rides took place.
The culmination of the day is the Burning of the Cork when the evil Cork gets his is blown to pieces
